Selfishness

I’m a selfish person, but then again everybody is. Yes everybody is. Or maybe I’m so selfish I can’t even imagine how a person can work without being selfish. The most common form of selfishness is survival. We are still animals. Of course, we are complicated animals, and we need a lot more to survive then our pet dog does. But we lie and do things that most people would consider mean or unethical out of self preservation. We rat on our colleagues, don’t loan money etc to survive. The modern day human needs more the food water and air. Just give him does, and he biologically lives of course, but he isn’t human. The city is a jungle.

A second reason would be laziness. And my generation is a lazy one in general. And I noticed laziness advances the younger the generation is. We miss out on a lot of good things because we are too lazy to start them in the first place. The ironic thing is we became so lazy we willingly deny things that are good for us as well (thus canceling laziness). The reason is comfort. Most of us live comfortable lives (and stress does not cancel comfort) More comfortable then our parents, and I presume our kids are going to live even more comfortable lives then us, unless a nuclear war brakes out.

My most favorite kind of selfishness however is the elusive kind. People who do good, self sacrifice and so on. They are selfish to. They do these things to get support, to hear the thanks, to strengthen themselves. They help, because the process of helping, or the results, or both, make them feel good. And it does feel good when people thank you. A selfish person is a person who cares about his good first. And some people feel good in helping others. If I am to expand my sick (that’s what most “normal” people would call it) way of thinking, I would say Jesus was just a tool of god’s selfishness. He got what he wanted out of the kid, a worldwide religion; but I’ll address that matter in a different post

In conclusion, if you consciously, and after real thinking, still consider yourself, a totally altruistic person, then you must have something wrong with your brain. Watch out, it could be a tumor!
